AGENDA

Join us to hear from the first Democrat in 25 years to represent the redrawn District 1 on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. Sylvia Arenas is a progressive who won a tough race against a more conservative candidate in a rural and typically more conservative district. She ran on addressing public safety, economic recovery for small business, preserving open space and addressing homelessness.

It is my greatest honor to serve as your County Supervisor. The District 1 staff and I are dedicated to addressing the concerns of and improving our District 1 community and the County of Santa Clara.

As a City of San José councilwoman, I’ve devoted my professional career to public service, focusing on making it possible for families and children to have a high quality of life within our community. To do this, I’ve prioritized economic development, public safety and family services.

Through my position on the City Council, I’ve championed issues that affect the everyday lives of San José women and families. I’ve led efforts to reform the city’s response to rising rates of sexual assaults and improve public safety. One of my greatest accomplishments was my launch of the City of San José’s Family Friendly Initiative, which is working to increase access to early education, after school programs, safe housing, family friendly public facilities, and paid family leave. I continue to make strides to support economic development, while working to make our streets safer, better maintained, and less congested.

Before serving on the city council, I received an M.P.A. from the University of San Francisco, and served as a member of the Evergreen Elementary School District Board of Trustees. My professional experience includes working in youth and early childhood educational agencies. I’m a proud long-time resident of Evergreen, where I live with my husband José, son Andres, and daughter Annaise.

Sylvia’s 4 Point Plan for Santa Clara Families:

  1. Improve public safety: On the County Board of Supervisors, I will continue to crack down on burglaries, violent crime, and those who abuse women and children.
  2. Homelessness: I will roll up my sleeves to fix and improve homeless and mental health services, so those in need can get the treatment and housing they need to get off the streets.
  3. Prioritize Families: We must make sure that families can afford to live in Santa Clara County, with more homeownership opportunities, affordable childcare, access to healthcare, transit, and good paying jobs.
  4. Climate Change: As a county, we must work together to protect our water and open space, expand renewable energy, and hold polluters accountable to clean up their messes.

We hope to see you there!
