February 2019 General Meeting

The SVDC General Meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m.

 

Where: Mayuri Indian Cuisine
2232 El Camino Real Santa Clara (MAP)
(about 2 blocks east of San Tomas Expressway)

Mayuri Indian Cuisine is a fine 4-star restaurant. A no-host Indian buffet is available for $20 that includes chicken, lamb and vegetarian options. The meal price includes salads, a non-alcoholic beverage and tip. A no host bar will be offering a limited selection of wine & beer.

(As many of you have learned, our former venue, Harry’s Hofbrau has permanently closed for redevelopment.)

At this event we are honored to have two excellent guest speakers – K. Patrice Williams and Rebeca Armendariz:

K Patrice Williams, 2020 Candidate, Solano County Supervisor, District 2.

She will speak on making an impact in your local community -- civic engagement through commissions and boards

About Ms. Williams: K. Patrice Williams has led a unique career. The various titles she has held, including chief marketing strategist, adjunct professor, and director of marketing, have provided her opportunities to engage with a diverse range of organizations, from iconic global brands to grassroots businesses and associations. Ms. Williams holds a Juris Doctorate from the San Francisco Law School, and she also holds bachelor’s degrees in Marketing and Economics.

Currently, Ms. Williams serves as the CEO of BrandGOV, a public affairs and event logistics business which specializes in events that connect government agencies with diverse collections of suppliers that offer services needed to fill government contracts.

In 2017, Ms. Williams has taken on numerous civic duties. She was appointed to the Solano Partnership Against Violence, a group which with she looks forward to reducing youth and domestic violence, gang violence and violence against the LGBTQ communities in Solano County. She was also appointed to the Policy Advisory Committee of the Metropolitan Transportation Commission, and she founded the Solano/Napa Chapter of BWOPA, Black Women Organized for Political Action. Today K Patrice Williams is a graduate of EMERGE CA, serves as CDP AD-11 Delegate and is a March 2020 candidate for Solano County Supervisor for District 2.

Rebecca will discuss the effect of the government shutdown on local service workers.

About Ms. Armendariz: Rebeca Armendariz is a respected activist, mother, and Chicana born and raised in Gilroy, California. She is a community and political organizer at SEIU US Service Workers West where she represents 50,000 service and contracted workers across California. She organizes primarily with janitors and security workers, and connects workers with elected officials and allies to fight for economic justice and workers’ rights. She formerly ran for Gilroy City Council, led the campaign in creating a union for the local nonprofit, MACSA, and was a Co-Chair on the Committee to Recall Judge Persky.
